For the love of the dancefloor

The sky is changing.
Nobody has mentioned leaving.

A face you know appears through the crowd. There is that look again: half disbelief, half delight. You lean towards each other, begin a sentence, then the next record makes the sentence unnecessary.

This is the Ibiza we keep coming back for.

For us at Ocho, nightlife runs through the middle of island life: the friendships, the stories, the dates circled months ahead. A great night can become one of the ways you measure a year.

In peak summer, a pre-party leads to a club, a gathering carries into morning, and another afternoon waits in the wings. International names share the calendar with residents who know their rooms intimately. The possibilities feel inexhaustible.

Our compass is clear. DC10 on Mondays. Amnesia for the essence of Ibiza. Rawness, identity, a crowd that gives something back. These are the places we put first.

Somewhere between the intensity of DC10 and the first daylight at Amnesia, there is an emotion floating around that you can feel everywhere and never quite capture. Try to explain it and the words fall short. Try to film it and the best part disappears. You leave a little addicted to the possibility of feeling it again.

“Never ending” is the feeling you want to keep.
The reason there is always a next time.

01 / Our kind of night

Two places.
Everything we love.

These are the rooms we build a trip around. DC10 for the intensity of a Monday; Amnesia for the release of a morning on the Terrace.

Ocho favourite · The Monday ritual

DC10.
Monday means
something here.

Raw · Uncompromising · Music at the centre

Many bodies.
One pulse.

Start with Circoloco on Monday. Let the rest of the week find its place around it.

Our kind of church. DC10’s identity is loud, expressive and unmistakably its own. You feel it before you could possibly explain it.

At full intensity, the room can feel packed like sardines: shoulders, raised hands, faces turned towards the same sound. Then something shifts. All those separate lives seem to merge into one abstract, unruly being. A bassline pulls through the crowd and the whole thing moves, taking you with it.

Seth Troxler, Luciano, Tania Vulcano. To our ears, these Circoloco legends hit differently here. There is a familiarity between artist and room that leaves space for nerve, mischief and the unexpected. A record takes a strange turn. The crowd goes with it. That trust is a large part of the magic.

Circoloco began here in 1999; Tania Vulcano was there for those first Monday mornings. The hours and format have changed. The pull of coming back on a Monday remains.

Some of the names you didn’t come for may be the ones you talk about afterwards.

Ocho favourite · The soul of the night

Amnesia.
And then,
the light.

History · Release · A room with a soul

Amnesia is our answer to anyone asking where to find the essence of Ibiza clubbing. The Main Room has its own force. On the Terrace, when a party carries into daylight, it becomes personal.

In the dark, a crowd has an outline. In the morning, it has faces. You begin to recognise the person who has been dancing beside you for hours. The friend you thought had gone home is still there, a few rows away. They see you seeing them.

That look.
You know the one.

There are entire friendships held inside it.

You are going to miss this.
You are still here.

Daylight finds a shoulder, a cheek, the back of someone’s hand. The room that felt endless in the dark becomes a place you can finally see.

Look at your people. Properly look. The effort it took to get everyone here: the calendars, the flights, the lives that never quite leave enough room. Yet here they are. Hair everywhere. Eyes bright. Moving with a freedom you wish you saw in them more often.

Someone catches your eye and starts laughing. You have no idea why. You start too. A hand finds yours and gives it a squeeze. Nothing particularly remarkable has happened. You would give quite a lot to keep it exactly like this.

Then a record reaches some unguarded place in you. Your throat tightens. It feels faintly ridiculous to be this moved in a room this loud, until you look around and realise you probably have company.

For once, there is nowhere else you want to be. Nothing you need to improve about the moment. The people you love are close enough to touch. The music is still playing.

And underneath all that happiness comes a small ache: you already know you are going to miss this. You are still standing in it.

Years from now, a few seconds of a track might bring the whole morning back. The light. That face. The arm around your shoulders. You may have forgotten what came before or what you did afterwards. You will remember how badly you wanted everyone to stay.

Please.
Let us have this a little longer.

The thing that stays

One day, you will wish
you could walk back
into this night.

02 / The inheritance

Before the myth,
there was a room.

Ibiza’s club culture grew through people, places and musical accidents. Its history helps explain why a few hours on a dancefloor can feel like joining something much older than your own holiday.

An archival photograph of people dancing outdoors at Amnesia

Different decades.
The same pull.

A place to loosen the rules.

Ibiza’s bohemian communities and appetite for music gave the early clubs their setting. Pacha opened on the island in 1973; Amnesia followed in 1976. At Amnesia, the original idea of a place to forget ordinary concerns was written into the name.

Alfredo, and an open mind.

When Alfredo became Amnesia’s resident in 1984, his approach moved freely between styles. The club’s own history remembers music continuing for workers, with word spreading about those early-morning sessions. A shared feeling could matter more than a tidy genre.

The British DJs who visited in 1987 helped carry that Balearic influence beyond the island. But the idea was already alive here: music could bring different people into the same moment.

What are we trying to find again?

For us, it is the openness. A record you would never have chosen finding you at exactly the right time. Dancing beside someone whose life you know nothing about, then exchanging a look that makes introductions seem unnecessary. For a while, the things that usually separate people have very little work to do.

No summer was perfect. Somewhere on this island, someone is having the night they will talk about for the rest of their life. We want the next generation to have that chance, too.

1973

Pacha opens in Ibiza. A new chapter for the cherries.

1976

Amnesia begins. The idea of leaving ordinary concerns at the door takes a name.

1989

Pepe Roselló takes over Space and builds around the hours when other clubs close.

1999

Circoloco begins at DC10. Monday mornings acquire a different meaning.

History: Amnesia’s origins · Alfredo’s musical legacy · Space’s own account · DC10’s timeline.

03 / The afters

The morning was always part of the night.

After what,
exactly?

How the next day
became the destination.

Ibiza’s afters have several roots: Amnesia’s early mornings, Space’s daytime culture and Circoloco’s Monday beginnings.

Space made the unusual hours a reason to come. After taking over in 1989, Pepe Roselló saw an opportunity to open while other clubs were shut. Its terrace developed with Alex P and Brandon Block; later, marathon Sundays brought different parts of the day into one long musical journey.

Circoloco’s original Monday-morning sessions at DC10 gave that circuit another destination. The hour when much of the world was returning to work could be the hour a dancefloor was beginning again.

By morning,
something has softened.

By morning, the introductions have worn off. You belong to a small, temporary society with its own familiar faces.

There is the dancer who keeps making you laugh. The friend who knows, without asking, which part of the record you are waiting for. The person whose name you still don’t know, but whose absence you would notice.

The DJ has time to take a less obvious turn. The room has time to listen. That shared patience can make a record feel enormous. Somewhere outside, shutters are going up and coffee is being made. Inside, a whole other morning is unfolding.

Pages from the afters

A few things
we couldn’t leave behind.

Different faces. Different records.

For a few hours,
you belonged.

This is what Ibiza’s great afters pass on: the freedom to give a morning to music, and the strange tenderness of sharing it with people you might never see again.

Eventually, you do leave. There is a last look back, an unfinished goodbye, a promise to send a track. Outside, ordinary daylight feels almost too ordinary for what has just happened. You walk a little way in silence. How would you begin?

Later, back in your everyday life, somebody sends a message to the group. A date. A flyer. A few seconds of music.

You know your answer
before you finish opening it.

Some part of you
is still dancing there.

The afters, today. Licensing changes reshaped the old circuit. Follow announced events and official after-parties rather than assuming historical opening hours still apply. At 528, for example, selected events continue into its indoor spaces; check the particular date and ticket.

From the reading pile. Jamaal Johnson’s Mixmag report from Amnesia’s 2024 opening follows a first-time visitor’s changing view of the island. It is a wonderful companion to this story.

04 / Before dark

The sun has
a guestlist, too.

Sunglasses are passed around. Someone has forgotten the lunch reservation they were worried about. Daytime dancing has a particular generosity: the whole island seems to be in on the plan.

Ocho’s daytime favourite

Destino Five.
No hesitation.

Open-air · A proper musical occasion · Our daytime pick

Our daytime favourite. With Marco Carola’s Music On in the picture, the decision becomes easy.

Music On is an afternoon you settle into by degrees. A conversation becomes a nod; the nod becomes a dance. Soon, the only thing anyone wants to discuss is what Carola has just put on.

Daylight makes the enjoyment visible: a grin across the crowd, someone conducting an imaginary orchestra. Everybody is exactly where they want to be. For us, Destino is the island’s finest daytime occasion.

Music On ran at Destino Five in 2026. Future dates and line-ups must be confirmed through the official programme.

A big, easy way in.

Watch the least club-obsessed person in your group throw both arms into the air. Ushuaïa understands that pleasure: familiar names, enormous production and, on its more commercial nights, a chorus that needs no explanation.

An easy starting point for friends whose musical tastes rarely agree. Some events go deeper than the venue’s broad reputation suggests; the programme is worth a closer look.

05 / Find your floor

Different desires.

Some nights you want to dress up; others, to disappear into a bassline. Amnesia and DC10 have our hearts. The rest of Ibiza gives curiosity somewhere to go.

All the colours

A little glamour.
A lot of heart.

Pacha has the charm of a night that began with somebody saying, “Let’s make an occasion of it.” A proper dinner. The shirt that nearly stayed in the suitcase. Friends looking rather pleased with themselves on the way out.

The cherries carry history. Beneath them: flirtation, characters, and the discovery that somebody you have known for years is a much better dancer than they have been letting on.

Begin with dinner in town. Let the conversation get good, then follow the music to Pacha. A little glamour has never stopped a proper dance.

06 / Make a night of it

A little thought.
A lot of freedom.

Good planning is mostly invisible: nobody stranded, nobody surprised by the bill. Sort out the essentials together, then let the evening become more interesting than the itinerary.

The beginning

Give dinner
some time.

La Bodega is a good starting point for sharing plates in town. Paradise Lost brings rum-led cocktails and records to the next chapter. Or begin around the villa table, with a simple meal and a playlist everybody has had a hand in.

A bowl passed across the table and a track everybody needs to hear can be enough. Save the bigger spend for the event you really care about.

The arrangement

Choose the event.
Know the details.

Listen to a set. Buy through the venue or its named ticket partner. Check the arrival deadline, identification and dress rules. Agree the whole budget, including transport, before someone books a table for everyone.

For VIP, confirm what is included and how many guests the quote covers. Have the money conversation early—a kindness to the friend who would otherwise spend the evening doing the sums.

The people

Look after
your company.

Arrange the ride home, save the villa pin and pick a meeting point. Give people room on the dancefloor and follow camera policies.

Look after the friend who leaves early as well as the one who stays. There is no compulsory finish line. Keep the afters in the venues hosting them and return to the villa quietly.
